The third installment of the highly-anticipated animated movie How to Train Your Dragon: the Hidden World is just around the corner. The favorite pets of Berk have never been more closely watched than it is today.
Now, before anyone or rather every one of us hit the cinemas, let us be reacquainted with all the dragons that we know and love. There may be a thing or two you’ll be surprised to know about them.
This list is from the first two movies only and does not include the upcoming movie “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World”. Let’s start from the bottom of our list.
They are babies and they answer to no one. Just like humans, they are stupid clumsy and have no regard for authority. They cannot be controlled by any alpha and for this reason, they have played a great part in the rescue of all the dragons in How to Train Your Dragon 2 (HTTYD 2).
Hookfang is a Nightmare dragon and its rider is Snotlout. Although their relationship is shaky at best, they do well in combat as they are both competitive. Nightmares can coat itself entirely on fire and are very temperamental dragons. No wonder, a nightmare was the last challenge in dragon training.
A dragon-like no other who seeks affection and petting. Meatlug is a Gronckle dragon who admires her rider Fishlegs rumbling of dragon trivia. They do have one thing in common. Their love for food. Gronckles mostly eat rocks and spits molten lava.
Skullcrusher is a Tracker as it was him who tracked Hiccup when he was taken by Valka into the dragon nest. He is Stoick’s dragon and was later passed on to Eret. Skullcrusher is a Rumblehorn dragon and they are known for being hard-headed, hence the name.
This dragon emerged in HTTYD 2 as Valka’s dragon. Valka is Hiccup’s mother who has long been presumed dead. Toothless looks up to Cloudjumper like an older brother. As a Stormcutter dragon, Cloudjumper is very proud and confident. Maybe because of the fact that it has four wings and undeniable intelligence.
This beautiful dragon with its beautiful rider Astrid has more than its blue scales. Stormfly is playful and gentle looking but is also deadly, so much like her rider. It can target you with spikes coming from its tails and is very precise in doing so. She is of the deadly nadder kind and is seen as bird-like.
Barf & Belch (Zipplebacks)
The twins are its riders, so you can imagine the chaos it entails. The twins argue a lot and same with their dragon heads. Ruffnut(Barfs) and Tuffnut(Belch) loves causing trouble and are cunning in nature.
So, these dragons suit them to perfection since it breathes out gas and the other lights it up with fire.
The main antagonist in the first film of How to Train Your Dragon. It is known as the queen wherein all the dragons give their food or offerings. If the queen finds it lacking, she will eat the smaller dragon itself. It was enormous and have a very tough hide, almost impenetrable.
Alpha. Top of the dragon hierarchy. Not born as alpha but is earned through battle and the protection it can offer to the dragon nest. They are very rare. They are enormous and probably the biggest of all dragons, therefore earning its title “king of all dragons”. Facing them is intimidating enough for the much smaller dragons. They are architects since they build their nest for all dragons under their care. They produce ice to envelop the nest. Breathes ice.
Toothless (Night Fury)
Unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. A big winged pussycat. A nightmare or so it was called. Or thought of. Like a child as it is still young, the same age as Hiccup as revealed in How to Train Your Dragon 2, it is playful and curious of the world, highly intelligent and protective of Hiccup. Their relationship is that of best friends and lifetime partners. This bond is mold by their need for each other in order to fly. As the main dragon, Toothless is in a league of its own, with powers like firing acetylene/oxygen-shaped charges, echolocation senses, and plasma blasts to light up his way.
