Bill Cosby was the leading character of the long-running popular comedy television series, The Cosby Show, with the consecutive award of number one rated show in television for five seasons. He was a household name in the early 80’s to late 90’s, and he was coined as America’s favorite dad. Mark Whitaker published a biography that dwells in Cosby’s family life and achievements. At the age of 80 years old, Bill Cosby was thought to be in the pinnacle of his success. But now, many Americans are thrilled by the turn of events and thought of him as a monster finally being caught by the net. There are also some who says that this scandalous trial was just a way to humiliate Cosby in front of the public.
There were about 60 women in the last five decades that accused Cosby as a sexual assaulter but the statute of limitation laws charged only one in the trial. The reason of re-trial is from the report of Andrea Constand, stating that the comedian drugged her with a pill in order for her to be unconscious while Cosby molested her.
Andrea was a working director for the women’s basketball team at Temple University, Philadelphia. Cosby invited her to his house to talk about her career aspirations. Unfortunately, the bad happened. Even though Constand shared in the trial that Cosby penetrated her private parts without her consent, the comedian denied all of the accusations and said that the encounter was consensual.
Cosby has always been known as a womanizer throughout the years, but it’s only now that the public are stunned that he would do such a thing: having sex with women with none of their consent.
These are some of the disturbing allegations by other women, besides Andrea Constand:
- Louisa Moritz claimed that Cosby forced her to give him oral sex backstage of a tonight show.
- Victoria Valentino was raped in his car as he offered her a ride home to her apartment but was unable to move due to the pills that he also offered to her.
- Linda Brown was told by Cosby as a ‘real-life blow-up doll’ right after she woke up naked in Cosby’s hotel room.
- Donna Barett said that Cosby forcefully pressed his body against hers during a photo shoot with her track team.
He is the first celebrity sexual assault trial since the #MeToo Movement, which went viral on Twitter on October 2017 and was popularized by Alyssa Milano as she accused Harvey Weinstein for sexual assault. The movement was for women who have experienced being sexually assaulted, abused, and molested or rape in the workplace.
His attorney, however, Tom Mesereau is very eager to defend Cosby’s case and said that he plans to appeal. He also said that Cosby’s trial is just a form of public lynching; meaning that it is an extrajudicial punishment by informal groups. For him, these allegations were just a way to crush the comedian’s successful career and to destroy his public image.
In the re-trial, the judge allowed five additional accusers to give evidence.
What is Cosby’s Punishment?
In Constand’s case, Cosby is charged with three allegations: penetration while the complainant is unconscious, penetration without consent, and penetration without the knowledge of the complainant having administered an intoxicant for the purposes of preventing resistance. Cosby denies the charges and that trial will still be ongoing. If proven guilty, Cosby will be facing 30 years in jail if found intoxicating and raping Andrea Constand.
While the trial continued, Cosby was placed on house arrest at his Philadelphia mansion and was monitored with a GPS bracelet attached on his ankle. He can only leave his house to meet his lawyers or to the doctor and if he ever does leave, he must ask permission to some authority.
Cosby is guilty. I’m sorry if you loved a lie. His victims can now exhale. Thank you judge and jury. Thank you society for waking up.

The Reactions from the People
The victims rejoiced and celebrated as the verdict was revealed. A lawyer of the accusers said, “After all is said and done, women were finally believed.” The women who were abused by Cosby cheered in the courtroom but Thomas, Bill Cosby’s lawyer said, “We are very disappointed by the verdict. We don’t think Mr. Cosby’s guilty of anything, and the fight is not over.”
The women felt like they are heard and they can rest for a while knowing that he will pay for what they did to them. Patricia Steuer (was assaulted by Cosby when she was 22) said she felt vindicated by the verdict.
But even though the victims are heard, there are still many who backfires and said that they have little to no evidence against Cosby and many also question about why Constand charged accusation to him now rather than complaining to the court way back on 2004.
Many women also sees the backfire as one of ‘society’s problems’ because people find it difficult to believe people who are sexually assaulted because there is no evidence that goes with it.
