Hugo Weaving is a big name in the film industry. He has starred in plenty of blockbuster films including ‘The Matrix’. ‘V For Vendetta’, ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, and so much more. Weaving has always been someone attracted to arduous and intricate characters, usually playing the resident bad guy with a lot of depth and a whole lot of bottled feelings. His character is no different in ‘Mortal Engines’ as he plays Thaddeus Valentine – leader, father, politician, and villain.
Weaving has explained that his role in ‘Mortal Engines’ is complicated but with that, he found challenge and the inspiration to bring this character to life. Thaddeus Valentine, as Weaving describes, is not your typical villain as he balances out being a leader, a father, and a realist. He is a romanticist but his passion brings destruction.
Weaving has previously stated that he has read the novel before taking up the role, even going as far saying that it would make a great film, then almost immediately taking it back after jokingly saying that it would be possibly hard to depict. Weaving also added that playing Valentine was definitely challenging but it all worked out in the end.
This is not the first time Weaving worked with Peter Jackson and Christian Rivers, having been in ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy before.Watch more about Hugo Weaving in the video below:
