Add to it that the bride is an American actress and the first mixed-race individual to ever join the royal family makes it worthy of all the talks and unending curiosity.
Here are the highlights of the wedding we just can’t get enough of.
1. Arrival of the mothers with the children
The wedding was held in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, Windsor on May 19,2018. The arrivals were joyously welcomed but the cheers was loudest when the little ones arrived with their mothers.
2. The bride walks alone
Doria Ragland, the bride’s mother, was with her as they arrived at the chapel. Meghan Markle then chose to walk down the first half of the aisle alone with her cute bridesmaids and page boys at her back holding hands. It is said that she chose this because she wants to be the image of an independent woman.
Markle, 36, asked Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and father of the groom walk her down the second half of the aisle instead of her father since Thomas Markle Sr., cannot attend the wedding for health reasons.
3. Bouquet of flowers
The flowers are said to be handpicked by Harry himself from the private garden at Kensington Palace, with forget-me-nots, Princess Diana’s favorite flower.
Popularly known as “the People’s Princess,” they chose the flowers to honor the well-loved groom’s mother.
Brian and John, the twin Mulroney boys, held the train of Markle’s dress and one of the cutest moments ever recorded happened as one of them was caught grinning wide-eyed with excitement as Markle was about to start her walk.
5. Prince Harry
Prince Harry looks at his bride, Meghan Markle, and spoke the perfect words a groom must say to his bride, “ You look amazing. I’m so lucky” .
6. Most Rev. Michael Bruce Curry’s inspiring address
The Most Rev Bishop Michael Curry, primate of the Episcopal Church, he gave an address which starts with a quote from the great Martin Luther King Jr.
“We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we do that, we will make of this old world a new world,” he said. “Love is the only way. There’s power in love. Don’t underestimate it. Don’t even over-sentimentalize it. There’s power, power in love.”
And later on gave this heart melting statement, “When you are loved and you know it. When someone cares for you and you know it. When you love and you show it. It actually feels right”.
7. Stand by me
The all black choir took everyone there to the black church as they sing a beautiful rendition of “Stand by me”. Markle’s black heritage was very present and can be felt throughout the ceremony.
8. Harry crying
Harry was seen wiping tears from his cheeks as Diana’s tribute song was playing.
9. The kiss
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have shared their first kiss as husband and wife on the steps of St George’s Chapel.
And of course, the charming and effortless way they interact with the people. The new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the title given by the queen to Prince Harry at that same morning have endeared the heart of the public.
10. The waving
Riding the Ascot Landau carriage during the procession, they unceasingly waved to all the people who have traveled all the way there to congratulate and celebrate with them. The crowd received the newlyweds very warmly.
