With Disney finalizing the live-action “Aladdin” remake, the news about who will play the main characters of the film had exploded. Certainly, Disney has officially introduced who will play Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie back in 2017 at the D23 Expo.
While the production crew was having problems finding the right person who will fit the titular role of Aladdin, it was quite the opposite for the roles of Jasmine and Genie. Without much fuss, Naomi Scott was officially cast as Aladdin’s love interest, Princess Jasmine. The role of Genie, without hesitation, fell into the hands of the powerful actor Will Smith. As for the role of Aladdin, Disney officially announced that it will be played by the newcomer actor Mena Massoud.
Guy Ritchie will be sitting on the director’s chair for this live-action film. The script, on the other hand, will be written by John August. August will be staying as close to the original Arabic folktale as possible.
In the original story, Aladdin has been granted three wishes by a genie who was trapped in a lamp for a long time. August will be retaining the important points of the story that made it famous – Aladdin, genie, and the lamp. Of course, he will be putting a comic take on it to make it more fun for the audience.
Much can be expected from the live-action remake. After all, the original animated film of ‘Aladdin’ was the highest grossing film back in 1992. It also took home the Academy Awards for best song and best score for its theme song “A Whole New World”.
