With Disney unveiling the first look of the new Aladdin live-action movie, many fans have pointed out how Will Smith’s character may ruin the much-loved character Genie. The criticisms pretty much sum up how the live-action character doesn’t have the classic, magical look that the original animated film has portrayed in the past. Even more, it came as a disappointment that Smith’s portrayal of the role appears much more human than genie-like.

But, surprise, surprise, Will Smith has confirmed in Instagram that he won’t look the same way as he did in the poster for the entire movie. Genie – just like in the animated film – will be blue in the actual film.

“BAM!! First look at the Genie, Princess Jasmine, and Aladdin,” Smith captioned the post. “Check me rockin’ the Top Knot Ponytail Vibes in Entertainment Weekly (and yes, I’m gonna be BLUE! 🙂 This is how the Genie is in Human / Disguise Form. My character will be CGI most of the movie.)”

According to Smith’s caption, the genie in the photo is his “human form”, perhaps when he is walking around with Aladdin (or Princess Jasmine) around Agrabah. Even a genie needs a disguise on several occasions if he wants to do his job right, okay? For the rest of the movie, his blue genie form will be CGI.

With the official confirmation coming from Will Smith himself, look forward to what he would look like when the CGI effects are in place.

The live-action film of Aladdin will star not only Will Smith but many other stars including Naomi Scott, Mena Massoud, Marwan Kenzari, and Navid Negahban. It will soon hit the theaters on May 24, 2019.
