Alita: Battle Angel has definitely taken its time with its live-action adaptation. It took forever before this sci-fi action flick came into fruition – having a scheduled release date. Director Robert Rodriguez is more than glad to announce that the film’s release date will be on February 14, 2019 in the US.
Adapted from the successful Japanese manga back in the 90s, the story of Alita: Battle Angel focuses on a cyborg heroine who laid unconscious in a scrapyard before being rescued by a scientist. Without any memories of who she is or where she came from upon waking up, this Battle Angel will go through a lot of adventures just to find those forgotten memories that locked away the secrets of her own past.
Produced with cutting-edge CGI, Alita: Battle Angel boasts of a 200 million USD production budget. Initially, the production was assaulted with controversies, all thanks to Alita’s initial look. Fans weren’t quite happy with how Alita looked at first. The production then promised to revamp her to reflect the original material as closely as possible. Of course, the controversies didn’t hinder the film from pushing through. After applying changes and appeasing fans, the release date of this film finally received the green light.
The film will feature celebrities Rosa Salazar, Christoph Walts, Jacki Earle Haley, Keean Johnson, Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connely, and Ed Skrein. Catch the film in theaters this Valentine’s Day!
