Meet Thanos and his gang of mischiefs.

Many of us are hyped for Marvel’s upcoming film, “Avengers: Infinity War”. The film included many superheroes we have come to know and love, such as Iron Man, Captain America, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and so forth. The film also includes characters new to the fray, and characters not even announced yet. After all, Peter Dinklage’s role in the film is still not revealed, so there must still be a character in there no one knows aside from the production crew. It could be a hero we already know, it could be a new and different hero.

But enough about heroes. The web has been talking about all these superhumans of superpowers, Buddy Pine, also known as Syndrome, would be irritated (Get it? Do you get the Incredibles reference? Speaking of Incredibles, it is almost here).

Now let us talk about the villains of the film. Of course, Thanos is the main villain. However, the old big bad meanie himself could not handle all the Marvel franchise himself. He has help from a group of powerful people close to him and will do anything for him, their master. These tyrants were handpicked by Thanos himself to assist him in his evil scheme of power. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the Black Order.

WARNING: potential major spoilers as this talks about the comics. Reader’s discretion is adviced. You have been warned.

Corvus Glaive

Portrayed by Michael Shaw in the film, and (formerly speculated to be portrayed by Peter Dinklage), Corvus Glaive is said to be the most favorite generals of Thanos in the Black Order.

He was assigned to harass the planets under Thanos’ wing into giving his master tributes to offer. He was sent to Earth to find Thanos’ son, Thane. He was defeated by Marcus Milton, also known as Hyperion, during the battle with the Avengers in his mission, but can regenerate if his glaive, his main weapon, remains unbroken. In the comics, there was a point of time in which Thanos was absent, and he assembled his own version of the Black Order in his master’s absence. He has superhuman strength, speed, durability, and is known to be an excellent fighter.

Proxima Midnight

Proxima Midnight, portrayed by the actress best known for her roles in Fargo and HBO’s The Leftovers Carrie Coon, is the wife of Corvus Glaive.

During the Black Order’s invasion on Earth, she was ordered to retrieved one of the Infinity Stones, the Power Gem, in Atlantis which was on the hands of Namor McKenzie, its prince. She fought against the Avengers and Carl Lucas, or most known for as Luke Cage, in New York City and was defeated by them. Her weapon is a spear forged for her by Thanos. Like Mjolnir, the spear was forged using a sun in a warped space-time. She is a master combatant just like his husband.

A week before, Marvel released a clip of Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight fighting against Black Widow, Thor, and Falcon, so we have a glimpse of what to expect at least in appearance of their characters.

Black Dwarf/Cull Obsidian

Black Dwarf, renamed into Cull Obsidian for the film for either political or conventional reasons, is Corvus Glaive’s brother, which technically makes him Proxima Midnight’s brother-in-law. He is the powerhouse of the organization and the actor portraying him for the film has not yet been revealed. It could possibly be Peter Dinklage’s role, but it is highly unlikely.

Black Dwarf was the first member to be sent to Marvel’s mythical nation Wakanda, which the film’s location of battle seems to take place, as shown in the trailers. However, Black Dwarf found great resistance during battle and was forced to retreat. He was exiled from the Black Order by Thanos and later was killed by Ronan the Accuser in their battle with the Avengers.

Supergiant is a member of the Black Order, although she does not appear in the Infinity War, maybe due to the lack of time for such a huge war, or the lack of budget for such a huge cast, or maybe even both.

Nonetheless, Supergiant, in the comics, was also sent to the Earth during their invasion. She was in charge in detonating the bombs of Wakanda by using Black Bolt to activate it. She is an intellect parasite capable of mind control. Just as she was about to succeed in detonating it, Maximus Boltagon, one of the Inhumans, used Lockjaw, a loyal dog pet of the Royal Family of the Inhumans capable of traversing through space and time, to teleport her and the bomb to another place, ultimately killing her.

Ebony Maw

Finally, we have Ebony Maw, portrayed by Irish actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor. Ebony Maw is no fighter, but he makes up for it using his tongue. His main weapon is his words, so to speak. After all, might alone cannot defeat people easily. With the help of the pen, then the sword is strengthened. Indeed, he is the silver-tongued member of the Black Order and a decisive and cunning strategist. He prefers strategy over combat, which what makes him more dangerous than the rest.

During their invasion, he managed to force Doctor Strange to summon Shuma-Gorath, an old and powerful being who ruled over hundreds of dimensions and banished from Earth over a million years ago. He managed to persuade Thane into thinking he was his ally. After Thanos was defeated in the battle, he trained Thane into something greater than his father.

The Black Order is one mesh of evil and makes them perfect villains in Infinity War. The fans could only hope that they are as strong and as cunning as the comics. Although Supergiant is not present, they are still powerful. What do you expect of the Black Order?
