This is not just for the comic fans but Ms. Marvel, Nick Fury, Ronan the Accuser, Korath the Pursuer and even bigger names will be in the upcoming MCU installment. Unexpectedly, the names Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg has stormed much of the discussion these days and Jude Law is someone to blame.
Before Captain Marvel was Mar-Vell
Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg’s feud is older than Captain Marvel and in fact it is because of this rivalry that made Carol Danvers into Captain Marvel(at least in the comics). Danvers was caught in the crossfire, and specifically in an explosion of a powerful device called Pseudo-Magnetron, Danvers’ DNA fused with Kree DNA and gave her her powers. Not just any power but a power strong enough to call her the strongest Marvel superhero. Although boringly narrated but that was one of the coolest chapter in the comics – the birth of the ultimate Avenger – Captain Marvel
Jude Law as Mar-Vell or Yon-Rogg: What You Need to Know
Mar-Vell is a Kree noble superhero who turned his back from his race to side with humanity. Carol Danvers took the name Captain Marvel in honor of humanity’s friend and her mentor, Mar-Vell.
On the red corner is Yon-Rogg, Mar-Vell’s sworn archenemy is an elite Kree combatant pious enough to conspire in overthrowing his empire leaders, Supreme Intelligence. Yon-Rogg is also generally known in the comics as someone with pure hatred and jealousy for Mar-Vell (Tip: More than a rivalry for honor, Yon-Rogg was deeply jealous of the relationship between Mar-Vell and the medic Una.)
One is a superhero and the other is a supervillain. It is funny and at the same time amazing how Marvels managed to confuse us who would play whom with only one cast – Jude Law.
It’s generally believed that Jude Law will be playing the Kree warrior Mar-Vell in Captain Marvel. But could he actually be the film’s surprise villain – Mar-Vell’s greatest nemesis, Yon-Rogg?
The character played by Jude Law is clouded by mysteries. Well thanks to Marvel’s non-definitive answers to all our queries and in the series of posters and trailers released, now we have more reasons to believe that Law will be playing Yon-Rogg and not Mar-Vell. Law’s scenes in the released trailers seem to hint Yon-Rogg’s character. And if Law would be playing Mar-Vell, there’d be no reason for Marvel to be enigmatic about the character. Also, most of the warriors in the Kree StarForce eventually will be villains. There’s a better chance that their commander who is played by Law, be a villain too.
But you know what? We are being played by Marvel! This is all just marketing but why is this still exciting? There’s a bigger chance Jude Law will Yon-Rogg but regardless of who Law would portray, they better not disappoint us.
