Notable Characters Created
+ Karl Stoner
the German spy in No Ordinary Summer, may be my most interesting character. Sent to America during the summer of 1940 to conduct sabotage against military and industrial targets the reader becomes drawn to him for three reasons. First, he lived in the US for five years in his youth, a requirement for this operation. Second, his commitment to Hitler and Nazism is ambiguous at best. He is not a member of the Nazi Party. And third, he falls in love with ah American woman. He begins to wonder if should remain in America with her. Events beyond his control will unfortunately make the decision for him.
+ Jack Adler
Jack Adler is the Penitent Spy. Born to a Jewish family in Sudetenland during the 1920s they must flee Hitler’s advancing armies. Scattered in all directions Jack begins his long odyssey that ends with his reaching America several years later. Amazed at his good fortune he is hired by the CIA. Over a number of years he participates in several operations involving Latin America that serve to undermine his belief in the CIA’s policies for that region. A tragic event during one of his operations destroys his remaining belief in his work.
