The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind is an amazing film adaptation directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor. Ejiofor also plays the role of Trywell Kamkwamba in this masterpiece. It follows the real-life story of 13-year-old William Kamkwamba who invents a wind turbine to help his family and the entire village when their land experienced famine. A true-to-life event that draws in inspiration as William Kamkwamba struggles to continue his education and to aid his family during the hard times.
Aside from being an outstanding film, the cast is also sensational. Maxwell Simba plays the role of William Kamkwamba, the remarkable 13-year-old who saved his village from famine. He was thirsty for knowledge. Later on, Darmouth College offered him a scholarship where he eventually graduated his Masters. His father is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, a man who would go lengths to help his family and the people around, all the while bringing a wide array of emotions to the set. Aissa Maiga also joins the wondrous cast and plays the role of William’s mother. Joseph Marcell, a veteran actor and is more largely known for his role in Prince of Bel-Air plays the role of Chief Wembe, leader of the village. It’s been a while since Joseph Marcell has graced the screen and this movie will serve as a comeback for him.
Should You Watch It?
This inspirational movie will move you and tug your heartstrings. What makes it even better is that it is a loose adaptation of real-life events. We catch a glimpse of William Kamkwamba’s story about hard work, perseverance, and goodwill. It might seem like a conventional film but it will slowly build effectively. Moreover, it will give you the climax you deserve. It sheds light on issues that plague certain places in the country, including corrupt politicians and violent landowners. For Ejiofor’s first directorial film, he surely made a statement. The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind hits theaters March 1, 2019.
