Who could ever forget Disney’s ‘101 Dalmatians’? Not me, no. In fact, it’s one of my favorite animated films ever because who doesn’t love dogs? The animated film was a huge success back in the days. It even had its very own live-action adaptation that put a more realistic side to the puppies’ adventure. Sure, the dogs are cute and the story is adorable. However, you have to admit, Cruella de Vil had us really frightened. From her signature black and white look to her devilishly long nails, this lady and her disgusting habit had us on the edge of our seats the entire time.
In the live action, Cruella de Vil was played by the talented Glenn Close. However, she won’t be coming back for the upcoming origin story of our sinister villain. The role now belongs to the one and only Emma Stone. This time, Emma pushes out her good girl persona and will be channeling a rather intimidating look instead. Rumor has it that, in comparison to the chic Cruella back when the first movie came out, it’s going to be a different vibe. It’s going to be more on the punk side and will be set in the 1980s where we find a much younger Cruella.
There is no definite release date for the Cruella de Vil live adaptation just yet. Nevertheless, a name has already popped up as to who will direct this upcoming masterpiece: Craig Gillespie. He is the genius behind I, Tonya and its gripping biopic. Not much has been revealed at this point but it’s only going to be a matter of time.
