Beauty is when you can appreciate yourself. When you love yourself, that’s when you’re most beautiful. -Zoe Kravitz
Undeniably, we are already living in the age of social media. We are already in the generation where almost everyone is validation crazy. Everyone is so pressured to look flawless, but it turns out that having a healthy skin is what matters more rather than giving your skin a good impression through the software filters that are used in the media today. According to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, if you keep your skin healthy, it means that you are protecting your body against internal organ damage and keeping it off against germs. On an additional note, it is also the largest organ in our body, and your skin can be a basis for that “good-looking” impression factor.
In order to achieve that good-looking impression, here are some tips for a good looking skin. So I am advising you to get a sheet of paper and a pen to jot down these helpful tips because beauty is more than skin deep. You ready?
1. Adequate Sleep
Lack of sleep or not sleeping at all leads to dull complexion and breakouts. Compared to the succeeding lists, this is unarguably the easiest thing to do. One must not deprive our body of sleep since it is the only time for our skin to regenerate and heal itself. So?! Better catch those zzz’s for some beautiful reward.
2. Nutrient-rich foods
*Avocado. This fruit is packed with healthy fats, Vitamin C and Vitamin E that keeps your skin healthy, bright, plump, and hydrated. It can also help moisturize your skin, protect it from the harmful rays of the sun, prevents and treats acne, and it can also aid in healing wounds.
*Carrots and Tomatoes. These foods are stocked with phytonutrients and antioxidants – they are known to protect your body against damaging free radicals. Their beta-carotene and lycopene can help protect your skin from sun damage and repair skin cells.
*Papaya. Of all the fruits out there that is good for the skin, papaya is the one that makes wonders the most. It is not just rich in vitamins and minerals for a sound health, but it also gives your skin the following benefits; it moisturizes skin, clears pigmentation, reduces wrinkles, reduces under-eye dark circles, cures eczema and psoriasis, treats melasma, removes tan, and it also controls acne breakout
*Dark Chocolate. The effects of cocoa on the skin have impressive results. Studies had found out that after 6-12 weeks of consuming cocoa that is high in antioxidants, consumers experienced thicker and more hydrated skin. Their skin was less scaly and less prone to sunburn as well. Just make sure that you choose dark chocolate that is 70% cocoa and the one that is also of minimal sugar.
Our skin is 63% made of water, so it really makes sense to keep it hydrated. The best way to hydrate is drinking plenty of water, it does not just moisturize our skin but it also helps in flushing out toxins in our body and clears it from dirt and bacteria. Hydrating can also aid in fighting the symptoms of acne and gives you the chance for that flawless and glowing face. If you are bored of plain water, you also try drinking coconut water since it is also proven to naturally keep you hydrated.
4. Facial care
Pampering yourself is important too. Making your skin look good through beauty products is helpful but you must remember that not all beauty products are made for all skin types so you better be careful too. You can wear an ultra-hydrating face mask before sleep and do not wash off its remaining essence with water for better results. There are varieties of face mask that is also of specific function. Some are meant to hydrate your face, others are meant to detoxify, and some are meant to remove deep-seated dirt. So whatever your pick, these will help you achieve that youthful look. It is also recommended to wash your face twice a day only, excessive washing of face can make your face dry.
5. Exercise and avoid smoking
Exercise is very helpful in achieving a healthy skin since it promotes the increase of blood flow, and through that, it helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital. Busting a move and sweating also helps in removing dead skin cells in order for the new ones to grow. Exercise is also one of the best ways to cleanse your skin from the insides. And another thing! Smoking and second-hand smoke are very bad for your skin as well. It does not just make your lungs unhealthy but smoking can also cause the sagging of your skin and speed up the wrinkling process.
