‘Aquaman’ has made it to the top when it hit theaters last December 2018 and ever since then, there has been sort of an Aquaman fever that nobody really wants to break free from. So far, the latter hit the $1 billion mark, knocking fellow DC Universe hero ‘Wonder Woman’ off its throne with only $900 million in the box office. With all the hype ‘Aquaman’ has caused, it comes as no surprise that director James Wan decided to do a spinoff called ‘The Trench’.

For those of you comic enthusiasts, you would be very familiar, especially if you’re into the Aquaman comics. The Trench is basically a race in the underwater world and they’re practically just evil in a sense. They were, after all, one of Aquaman’s annoying enemies in the first comics. Usually, they ascend to the surface in search for food but they’re usually in the deepest parts of the ocean. Hunting for them is a way of life and they will stop at nothing to get their daily meals. They look really scary, with their fins and gills, razor sharp claws and teeth, and their wild demeanor.

They are ruled by a king and a queen, both far more ruthless than their army. Once the king sets his sights on a target, the rest back off.

A spin-off is underway and will be produced by James Wan himself. It’s more on the ‘horror’ side of things and with the Trench as its subject, that wouldn’t be so tough to pull considering they’re pretty frightening already.
